Bajaj Pulsar N160 Expert Review
The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is designed to offer a sporty yet practical
riding experience in the highly competitive 160cc segment. With
styling inspired by the larger Pulsar N250, the motorcycle brings
aggressive streetfighter design cues while maintaining everyday
usability. Bajaj has focused on improving braking safety, ride
stability and overall refinement compared to previous Pulsar models.
The engine is a 164.82 cc air-cooled unit that produces around 16 PS
of power and 14.65 Nm of torque. The tuning prioritises usable
mid-range performance rather than outright top-end speed, making the
bike easy to ride in urban traffic conditions. Acceleration feels
smooth and predictable, while the engine remains reasonably refined
throughout the rev range.
Engine & Refinement
Bajaj’s engineering focus with the N160 was to deliver better
refinement than earlier Pulsar generations. Vibrations are well
controlled at city speeds and the engine feels smooth up to moderate
highway cruising speeds. Throttle response is predictable and makes
everyday commuting easy for new riders as well as experienced
commuters.
The 5-speed gearbox shifts smoothly and the clutch is light enough for
daily stop-and-go riding. The gear ratios are spaced to keep the
engine within its strong torque band, allowing relaxed riding without
frequent gear changes.
Ride & Handling
The Pulsar N160 uses a perimeter frame similar to the N250, which
gives it improved stability and handling compared with older Pulsar
models. The bike feels planted while cornering and maintains
predictable handling characteristics even when riding aggressively on
twisty roads.
Suspension tuning strikes a balance between comfort and sportiness.
The front telescopic fork absorbs bumps reasonably well, while the
rear monoshock provides good stability during spirited riding. Higher
variants receive USD forks which further improve front-end feedback.
Braking Performance
One of the biggest highlights of the Pulsar N160 is its braking setup.
Bajaj offers dual-channel ABS on most variants along with a large 300
mm front disc brake. This setup provides strong stopping power and
significantly improves rider confidence during emergency braking
situations.
Compared to many competitors in the segment that still rely on
single-channel ABS, the N160’s braking system stands out as a safety
advantage.
Fuel Efficiency & Range
The Pulsar N160 delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of around 51.6
km/l. Real-world fuel efficiency typically ranges between 45 and 50
km/l depending on riding conditions and riding style.
With a 14-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle can deliver a riding range
of roughly 650–700 kilometres under mixed riding conditions, making it
suitable for both daily commuting and occasional highway rides.
Comfort & Ergonomics
The riding position is moderately sporty but still comfortable for
daily use. The handlebar position keeps the rider slightly leaned
forward while the seat height of around 795 mm makes the bike
accessible for riders of varying heights.
Overall comfort is good for short to medium rides, although longer
highway journeys may require occasional breaks due to the sporty
riding posture.
