Yamaha FZ-FI Expert Review
The Yamaha FZ-FI is one of the most recognisable street motorcycles in
the Indian 150 cc segment. Known for its muscular styling and wide
rear tyre, the bike focuses more on ride comfort, refinement and
everyday usability rather than aggressive performance.
Yamaha has positioned the FZ-FI as a practical commuter with premium
styling. The bike’s compact proportions, lightweight chassis and
upright riding posture make it especially suitable for city riding
conditions.
Engine & Refinement
Powering the Yamaha FZ-FI is a 149 cc air-cooled single-cylinder
engine that produces 12.4 PS of power and 13.3 Nm of torque. While the
numbers may appear modest compared to some competitors, Yamaha has
tuned the engine primarily for smoothness and efficiency.
The motor delivers its torque early in the rev range, which helps
during city commuting. Vibrations are minimal and the engine remains
refined even at higher speeds, which is a traditional strength of
Yamaha motorcycles.
Ride & Handling
The Yamaha FZ-FI offers comfortable ride quality thanks to its
telescopic front forks and monocross rear suspension. The suspension
setup is tuned slightly towards comfort, absorbing potholes and rough
city roads effectively.
With a kerb weight of just 135 kg and a wide 140 mm rear tyre, the
motorcycle feels stable while cornering and easy to control in
traffic. The upright handlebar and neutral riding posture also make it
comfortable for daily commuting.
Braking Performance
Braking duties are handled by a 282 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear
disc. The bike comes equipped with single-channel ABS which prevents
wheel lock during sudden braking situations.
While the braking setup is adequate for everyday riding, some riders
may prefer dual-channel ABS which is now becoming common in the
segment.
Fuel Efficiency & Range
Yamaha claims an ARAI certified mileage of 49.3 km/l for the FZ-FI. In
real world conditions, riders can expect mileage between 45–50 km/l
depending on riding style.
Combined with the 13-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle can deliver an
estimated riding range of over 600 km on a full tank, making it
practical for both daily commuting and occasional highway rides.
Comfort & Ergonomics
Comfort is one of the strongest aspects of the Yamaha FZ-FI. The 790
mm seat height makes it accessible for riders of different heights,
while the wide handlebar ensures relaxed riding posture.
Overall, the FZ-FI remains a balanced motorcycle that prioritises
comfort, style and reliability over outright performance.
