Yamaha FZ-X Expert Review
The Yamaha FZ-X is designed as a lifestyle motorcycle that blends
retro-inspired design with modern commuter practicality. With its
scrambler-like styling, round LED headlamp, and upright riding
ergonomics, the FZ-X stands out visually in the 150cc segment.
Built on Yamaha’s proven FZ platform, the bike shares its refined
engine and lightweight chassis while adding design elements aimed at
riders who prefer a distinctive look over aggressive performance.
Engine & Refinement
The 149cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine produces 12.4 PS of
power and 13.3 Nm of torque. While these figures are modest compared
to sportier 150cc motorcycles, Yamaha’s engine tuning prioritizes
smoothness, reliability, and fuel efficiency.
Power delivery is linear and predictable, making the bike extremely
easy to ride in city traffic. The engine remains refined even at
higher revs, which is typical of Yamaha’s commuter-oriented engines.
Ride & Handling
The lightweight chassis and upright handlebar position make the FZ-X
comfortable for daily commuting. The telescopic front forks and rear
monocross suspension are tuned for urban roads, absorbing bumps
effectively while maintaining stability.
At 139 kg kerb weight, the motorcycle feels light and manageable,
which makes it friendly for new riders as well as experienced
commuters.
Braking Performance
The braking setup consists of a 282 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear
disc paired with single-channel ABS. While braking performance is
adequate for city riding, some riders may prefer dual-channel ABS for
additional safety.
The inclusion of traction control is a welcome safety feature,
especially in wet or low-grip road conditions.
Fuel Efficiency & Range
Yamaha claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 55.11 km/l for the FZ-X. In
real-world conditions, owners typically report fuel efficiency in the
mid-40 km/l range depending on riding style and traffic conditions.
With a 10-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle can deliver a riding range
of over 500 km on a full tank under ideal conditions.
Comfort & Ergonomics
The upright riding posture, wide handlebars, and well-padded seat
contribute to good long-distance comfort. The seat height of 810 mm
also makes the bike accessible to riders of different heights.
Overall, the Yamaha FZ-X is a lifestyle commuter that prioritizes
design, comfort, and practicality over outright performance.
